Award: Associate of Applied Science degree

Description: Marketing personnel take on a variety of responsibilities and must work effectively with all people, listening to customer needs in order to achieve their marketing initiatives. An effective marketing professional needs to be proficient in planning, creating, organizing and delivering successful promotional campaigns. Oral and written communications play a vital role in transmitting product and marketing ideas to customers, employees and supervisors.

The program of study combines classroom work and on-the-job training to teach skills needed in marketing functions and business operation. After graduation you may seek employment as a creative professional in marketing or digital media.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand best practice concepts for use in their careers.
  • Students will demonstrate the human relations skills needed for success in a marketing occupation.
  • Students will demonstrate oral and written communication skills required of an entry to mid-level marketing professional.
  • Students will use personal selling techniques to market products and services.
  • Students will plan advertising and promotional techniques and procedures that support marketing activities.
  • Students will explain the roles of managers and entrepreneurs in business and society.
  • Students will model skills needed to secure and maintain employment in a business marketing career.
  • Students will outline the importance of customer service to the success of ongoing business operations.
  • Students will apply basic understanding of financial and economic concepts required of an entry to mid-level marketing professional.

This Associate of Applied Science degree program requires a minimum of 15 credits of transfer-level general education electives from Communication, Humanities, Math, Science, or Social Science.  Three of these hours can include SDV:179 The College Experience.  If The College Experience course is waived or transfers in for less than three credits, an additional general education elective is required.
