Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist Technician

Description: Being trained as a CNC Machinist provides students opportunities to succeed in advanced manufacturing facilities. The program provides the skills necessary to do a safe setup and operation of manual machines including lathes, mills, grinders, saws and hand tools. You will learn to operate, set up and program CNC mills, lathes and electrical discharge machines, design and program using CAD/CAM systems, learn proper inspection techniques, and become well versed in blueprint reading. The CNC Machinist program will prepare you for successful employment in a manufacturing career.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • The student will be able to identify safety concerns.
  • The student will be able to identify critical components that makeup machines found in industry.
  • The student will be able to produce machined parts to print specifications.
  • The student will be able to demonstrate the ability to program CNC machines.
  • The student will be able to apply proper tooling feeds and speeds.
  • The student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of blueprint reading for the machine trades.

Enrollment Process: See Enrollment Process . Applicants to this program do not need to complete the ALEKS® math assessment.

Program Requirements: During term 1, while enrolled in MFG 182 , students will complete a 10-hour OSHA training course through Career Safe Online.

Academic Requirements: To graduate from this program, students must complete all core coursework with a “C-” grade or above and earn a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

Minimum Credits: 45
