Program Entry: Enrollment may occur during any term. Fall term is the start of the program course sequence.

Award: Diploma

Description: In this age of rapidly changing technology, the automotive repair field demands personnel who are trained in the latest methods of diagnosis and repair. During this program you will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to find many opportunities in the automotive field. Instruction is provided in the basic skills on modern, up-to-date diagnostic and repair equipment. The courses emphasize hands-on learning.

After completing the necessary coursework, you should be prepared to take exams to receive certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in the following areas: automatic transmission/transaxle, brakes, electrical systems, engine performance, engine repair, heating and air conditioning, manual drive train and axles, suspension and steering.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • The student will be able to demonstrate the ability to work safely and maintain shop standards.
  • The student will be able to document vehicle repairs and carry out the repairs on the lab exercises.
  • The student will be able to apply learned automotive theories while making repairs on vehicles.
  • The student will be able to demonstrate the ability to use technical documents for making repairs.
  • The student will be able to show accuracy, proficiency, and quality while carrying-out lab activities.
  • The student will be able to apply basic communication skills.

Program Requirements: Prior to the completion of Term 1, students are required to provide their program faculty with a copy of their First Aid/CPR certificate.
