Description: The Large Animal Veterinary Technician program is accredited by the AVMA CVTEA. As required by the AVMA all aspects of veterinary technician medicine is covered, with an extra focus on large animal medicine. The program utilizes an on-site dairy and beef herd and animals from commercial enterprises to develop exposure to different species and to different facets of veterinary medicine. Transportation to off campus worksites is the student’s responsibility.
The skills acquired in this program will give the graduate the ability to work for a veterinary clinic and many other aspects of the veterinary industry such as research, sales and commercial or private animal care.
The skills required for completion of this program are set by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The Veterinary Technology Student Essential and Recommended Skills List is located on the AVMA website.
Program Admission: In addition to the College enrollment process , applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent, complete a personal interview with faculty, achieve a minimum ACCUPLACER WRITEPLACER® score of 5 and a minimum ALEKS® score of 45. ACT® and SAT® scores are also acceptable.
Academic Requirements: To graduate from this program, students must complete all required coursework with a “C-” grade or above and earn a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
Program Requirements: As a safety precaution, all students are required to be vaccinated for rabies prior to beginning the program.
