Program Entry: Enrollment may occur during any term. Fall term is the start of the program course sequence.

Award: Associate of Applied Science degree

Description: NICC’s Graphic Design program consists of a solid foundation in design principles, art and design history, typography, and dedicated time to learn industry-standard graphic, layout, web and motion software, followed by portfolio-building studio courses that enable students to put theory into practice.

Through hands on project based learning, students practice solving real-world visual communication problems in the classroom.  Our students graduate with a portfolio that is creative, professional, and demonstrates a high level of craftspersonship.  Students gain additional real work experience meeting and working with local designers, entrepreneurs and completing an on-the-job internship.

Program Learning Outcomes: 

  • Students will be able to apply the elements + principles of design in projects.
  • Students will be able to apply the design processes in projects.
  • Students will understand graphic design history and terminology.
  • Students will be able to utilize creative software for projects.
  • Students will be able to prepare digital files for various forms of commercial production.
  • Students will understand the responsibilities of a professional working in the graphic design field.

1 This Associate of Applied Science degree program requires a minimum of 15 credits of transfer-level general education electives from Communication, Humanities, Math, Science or Social Science. Three of these hours can include SDV 179 - The College Experience . If The College Experience course is waived or transfers in for less than three credits, an additional general education elective is required.
