A holistic overview of the cultural anthropological perspective broadly describing what it means to be human. Emphasis is on culture, the sets of earned behaviors and ideas that humans acquire as members of a society and use to adapt to and transform the world in which they live. Introductory-level topics include: the anthropological perspective; culture and the human condition; ethnographic fieldwork; history, anthropology and the explanation of cultural diversity; language; cognition; play, art, myth and ritual; world view; kinship; marriage and the family; relationships beyond kinship; social organization and power; subsistence or making a living; the world system; and anthropology in every day life.
